Data Centers in the 91st? Not so Fast.

The current state rep is the Minority Chair of the Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee.  Yet in June 2026, he wrote on his Facebook page, “As far as data centers, we should unleash our energy production so there is enough to supply them as well as our other needs.”

Producing more energy for data centers to consume does not make data centers good neighbors, or good for the local economy.  Data centers are greedy energy users  that take resources from rural communities and in return give headaches in the form of water shortages, higher electricity costs, and noise pollution.

And voters are asking questions and requesting guardrails. Check out this recent article Americans Oppose AI Data Centers in Their Area

Where are the data centers? Visit Data Center Proposal Tracker and you’ll read of two that will impact the 91st district.

One is proposed in Conewago Township in York County.  While outside of our district, the impact won’t stop at the border with its demands for water.

Near the Appalachian Trail bids are out for a second one in Cumberland County.

The AT is a gem for families and tourists, attracting travellers from around the world while relying on its natural beauty.

As your elected state representative, I will fight to protect our rural heritage and you from the negative impacts of data centers.  If the people of the 91st support the thoughtful development of a data center, or other infrastructure projects, I’ll make sure to have contracts that protect the resources of the local community.  Requirements will include the integration of renewable energy in their operations, monetary incentives that fill the coffers of the 91st, accountability with environmental standards, and local control of funds for local environmental, public, or economic initiatives.

Until these standards are met, I don’t welcome “unleashed production” here.
